Commercial Umbrella Insurance

Excess liability insurance, more commonly known as umbrella insurance is a common addition to many commercial insurance packages.

Commercial Umbrella Insurance

Commercial Umbrella Insurance

It protects you on top of the existing limits on your underlying policies. Essentially, it backs up the limits of your other liability policies including general liability, business auto, employer liability, and professional liability.  It is used to protect you against exceptionally large losses or events that could get very expensive.  These types of events are not very common, so the cost to extend coverage is relatively small.  The amount of coverage needed is always in direct correlation with the total value of your assets.

Assume a jury ordered your business to pay $2 million in damages for a liability claim, but your general liability policy has a $1 million limit. Your company would normally be required to cover the additional $1 million. However, with a $3 million Excess policy, the $1 million commercial policy would exhaust, and then the umbrella policy would cover the outstanding $1 million.  Basically, excess liability insurance acts as a duel policy providing coverage in excess of existing policy limits and providing coverage in areas not included with existing policies.  Let the experts at David Insurance help you determine the amount of excess liability insurance you may need.
